Our dedicated team of women in Auroville is committed to breaking the silence surrounding menstruation through open dialogue and education. By sharing personal narratives and fostering connections, we aim to transform the perception of menstruation into a natural and empowering experience. Our eco-friendly cloth pads, designed with functionality and sustainability in mind, offer a chemical-free, cost-effective alternative that is accessible to women from diverse backgrounds. Through initiatives like 'Pad for Pad' and 'Pad for Sisters,' we prioritize women's education and empowerment, enabling informed choices about menstrual care and fostering a community of support. Join us in redefining menstruation and embracing its importance in our lives.
Our team, made up of myself, my co-founder, and other women, came together to openly discuss our menstrual experiences. Despite our diverse journeys, we found common feelings of alienation and secrecy surrounding menstruation, highlighting a significant taboo. This spurred conversations not only among women and girls but also with men and boys in Auroville. As we introduced cloth pads, discussions evolved into heartfelt storytelling about first period experiences. These narratives forged connections, transforming our cloth pads into symbols of empathy and sisterhood. We recognised how societal norms had distanced us from ourselves and nature, with many accepting disposable products filled with plastics and chemicals. Through our dialogues, we sought to redefine menstruation, exploring what it means to use and care for a reusable cloth pad. This inquiry linked menstrual cycles to natural rhythms, emphasising that harming nature ultimately harms ourselves.
Our cloth pads are simple, low-tech, and environmentally sustainable, as we source materials locally to minimise transportation. Available in various sizes and designs, they add functionality to traditional cloth usage. As a social enterprise, we aim to make cloth pads accessible to women across diverse backgrounds in India, rooted in the spirit of connection inherent in Auroville. Recognising the taboo and lack of education surrounding menstruation, we incorporated education about periods alongside our products. Initiatives like 'Pad for Pad' and 'Pad for Sisters' emerged to expand our outreach, educating and empowering women and girls. We emphasise a sustainable alternative to disposable pads, highlighting benefits such as cost-effectiveness, chemical-free materials, and aesthetic appeal. Our journey is gradual and mindful, respecting the decision-making process of women and girls in rural India, focusing on education first, and allowing the option of trying cloth pads to arise naturally from informed choice.
